The aim of this international meeting, funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, was to bring together scientists from different fields and countries to discuss the important issue of the relationship between culture and science. The program of the Humboldt-Kolleg, which ran in parallel with the international symposium on "Cultural Studies" of the Doctoral School of Arts, Languages and Cultures of the University of Yaoundé I, also organized by Prof. Simo, included a plenary session of lectures, workshops on various themes, project writing sessions and coaching sessions for young researchers, as well as the presentation and discussion of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation's funding programs and opportunities. A general meeting of the Association Humboldt Cameroun was also held. The Humboldt-Kolleg, which was officially opened on April 5 by Prof. Daniel Abwa, representative of the Rector of the University of Yaoundé I, accompanied for the occasion by the First Counsellor of the German Embassy Mr. Lars Leymann as representative of the German Embassy in Cameroon, featured three days of intensive conferences and discussions. The intensity of the exchanges was due in particular to the fact that some 90 scientists and young scientists from 11 countries took part in the discussions. To strengthen regional networking, the Yaoundé Humboldt-Kolleg was attended by Humboldtians from Senegal, Togo, Benin and Nigeria, as well as academics from South Africa and Gabon. Seven German scientists also attended, including AGNES (African German Network of Excellence in Science) board member Prof. Dr. Jens Gebauer, and the vice-chairman of the selection committee for the Georg Forster Research Fellowships, Prof. Hans-Jürgen Lüsebrink. Scientists from the USA, Norway and Austria also took part in the conference. The focus was on strengthening national, regional and international networks. The Humboldt-Kolleg "Culture and Science", which took place from April 5 to 7, 2016 in Yaoundé, Cameroon, was initiated and coordinated and organized by the DAW Center, under the leadership of Prof. Simo.
